The Liaoning Province land mass has an area of 145,900 square kilometres and has a
population of 40,410,000. It is located in the southern part of China's Northeast. Bordering on the
Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea in the south and the Korean Peninsula in the east and facing Japan to its southeast.
Liaoning has an established industrial foundation dating from the 1950’s based on abundant
natural resources. It is one of the comparatively well-developed coastal areas in northern China that is open to the
world. Produce includes corn, rice, soybeans, apples, prawns, abalones and kelp. The principal minerals include coal,
petroleum, iron ore, diamonds, etc. |

Climate: Liaoning province lies in the eastern part of the Eurasian Continent. It features
temperate continental monsoon climate with a long winter, a warm summer and a short spring and autumn. The province
receives annual sunlight radiation ranging from 100-200 calories per square centimetre, and 2100-2600 hours of sunlight
annually with average temperature of 7º - 11º Centigrade. It enjoys 130- 200 days frost free period and 600-1100
precipitation of millimetres annually. The rainfall varies from 1100 millimetres in the east hilly area; while in the
west hilly region, geographically connected with Inner Mongolian plateau, the yearly precipitation drops to 400
millimetres. The Central Plains rainfall is moderate with about 600 millimetres annually.

Ethnic Groups: Liaoning is a multi-racial province with 44 ethnic groups in the
province. Besides Han nationality, there are 43 minority nationalities, such as the Manchu, the Mongolian, the Hui, the
Korean and the Sibo. The minority population is 6,550,000, forming 16% of the provincial total.
Agriculture: It produces corn, rice, soybeans, apples, prawns, abalones and kelp.
Industry: There are 5,910,000 employees in various enterprises. The independent
accounting units of the whole province budget is estimated at RMB/Yuan269,900-million. |
